Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fond du Lac County held its fourth annual Halloweenie 0.5K “Un-Run” presented by Society Insurance in Downtown Fond du Lac on Thursday, October 27. This year, the event took place on Main Street in Downtown Fond du Lac between Forest Avenue and 2nd Street. From vendors to volunteers to participants, it couldn’t have been a more spooktacular evening!

The Halloweenie 0.5K is a race for the couch potatoes, the underachievers, the carb-lovers, and the lazybones. It’s a running event that requires no running — just friends, drinks, costumes, and a good cause. As attendees made their way down the two-block stretch, they could sample local favorites like specialty meatballs from Eden Catering, beef tips and mashed potatoes from Mr. & Mrs. Catering, witch’s brew from Fat Joe’s, veggie chili from Annie’s Fountain City Café, homemade grilled cheese sandwiches from Envision Greater Fond du Lac Agri-Business Council, and more.

In between tasty bites, they could spin the “HalloWheel” to win candy or Crumbl Cookie coupons; shake their bones to music from Daily Dodge’s DJ Galaxy; or visit the SSM Health Blister Station to grab Band-Aids and lollipops for any racecourse injuries.

VIP ticketholders became Halloweenie royalty in the VIP Lounge sponsored by LEB Insurance. Halloweenie VIP could head to the Annex inside the Coliseum where they were treated to complimentary snacks and appetizers, a private bartender, and a swag bag.

Individual and group costume contestants gathered at the end of the night to show off their creativity (and maybe dish out a bribe or two in the form of a donation to BBBS) for celebrity judges: Mike Rosenau of Society Insurance, Karri Koenigs of Top Shelf, and Pete Wilke of Fond du Lac Festivals. Individual and couple costume winners included Yellowstone’s Rip & Beth in third place, Pirates in second place, and Batman the Ride from Michels Corporation in first place. Group costume winners included the Sanderson Sisters in third place, Mad Scientists from Grande Cheese Company in second place, and the incredible Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory ensemble from Michels Corporation in first place. The top costumes in each category received $25-$300 in winnings, and nearly all winners donated it back to BBBS.

The Halloweenie 0.5K is a yearly fundraiser benefitting BBBS. This year’s planning committee was co-chaired by Alicia Hans of LCSW LLC. and Megan Schueller of National Exchange Bank & Trust.
