Get Matched

Enroll a Child

As a parent, you recognize the potential of your child better than anyone. By giving your child the opportunity to be part of Big Brothers Big Sisters, you’re starting them down a path to an even brighter, more promising future.

When it comes to the future of our children and the well-being of our communities, we’re all in this together. So it should come as no surprise that we need the parents and guardians of Littles to be involved every step of the way, starting with the initial match.

Not only will you provide information about your child’s strengths and needs, but you’ll also approve the selection of the Big Brother or Big Sister. Once the match is made, you remain closely involved in many ways, including:

  1. Approving activities and outings for your child and their Big;
  2. Asking your child questions about those outings, and sharing what you learn with the agency staff;
  3. Reporting your child’s progress and milestones to the agency on a regular basis (Big Brothers Big Sisters will contact you, but we welcome your feedback any time); and,
  4. Participating in training on child safety offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, and communicating with your child about the training he or she receives.

Become a Mentor

A little time can make a lifelong difference.

Across our community, hundreds of Bigs are helping young people grow, build confidence, and see what’s possible by showing up just a few hours each month.

Becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple, or Big Family is one of the most meaningful—and genuinely enjoyable—ways to make an impact.

You’ll be thoughtfully matched with a young person and build a relationship through simple, everyday activities you already love like talking, exploring your community, or sharing hobbies.

There’s no single way to be a mentor. Our programs are designed to meet you where you are, offering flexible options so you can get involved in a way that fits your life—while making a lasting difference in theirs.

  • How much time does it take to be a volunteer?
    • Most Bigs (volunteer mentors) say they spend about 4 hours a month with their Little.
  • What kinds of things would we do together?
    • Whatever you usually like to do! Go fishing, ride bikes, go to the library, or go to the park. When you’re matched with your Little, not only will the BBBS team share information about agency and community events, but you’ll be supported by full-time staff who can suggest ideas too! And, there is a lot of work that goes into making the “best match” they can, so you’ll likely have things in common with your Little right from the start.
  • How much money do Bigs spend on activities?
    • You don’t have to spend anything be a great Big. Most Bigs will tell you that a typical outing with their Little is free or might cost as much as a cookie or hot chocolate. BBBS also offers no-cost group activities and free passes for local attractions, major sports events, theatrical performances and more.
  • What kinds of qualifications do I need to be a Big?
    • Whatever life experience you bring, you’re qualified! Littles aren’t looking for an expert, they’re just looking for a patient, present and accepting adult.
  • What kind of impact does a Big make?
    • A BIG one. After building a relationship with their Big, Littles report higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors like trying alcohol or illegal drugs, and educational success.
