Fond du Lac’s First ‘Un-Run’

Sick of all those pretentious 13.1 and 26.2 stickers staring at you from the rear windshield of the car in front of you? Well, now’s your chance to “earn” your very own 0.5K sticker.

Just sign up now for the inaugural Big Brothers Big Sisters Halloweenie 0.5K!

Say What?

That’s right. There’s no need to be scared this Halloween. The Halloweenie 0.5K is all treats and no tricks.

This 21-and-older event will be held in Historic Downtown Fond du Lac, Wisconsin — stretching from Division Street to Third Street. Yup. Three blocks. Straight down Main Street. Please leave pets at home.

And because it’s Halloween, you really should come in costume (but keep in mind you must be able to show your face to compare with your ID). We’ll have cash prizes for best dressed and stuff. Maybe even some team costume awards. Be creative, but please keep it decent.

So How Exactly Does This Work?

Show up at 6ish. We’ll get things started around 6:30 p.m. or so. If we start on time (no promises), and for those who want to actually run, the race will probably end about 6:33 p.m. for you.

But that’s not the point.

For the rest of us “un-runners,” just take your time. We’ll have a variety of rest stops along the course. Stop and grab a bit to eat — pizza, brats, cheese curds, mac and cheese, cookies. Thirsty? Have some beer, wine, coffee, hot chocolate. We might even have some water if you need it!

And be sure to take a break and take a picture at one of our selfie stations.

What more could you ask for? A band, you say? Sure, why not? Listen to Riding Shotgun along the route and then come back after you finish the race. They’ll be playing until 8:00 p.m.

(Hopefully you’ve finished the race by then, but if not, no worries. You’ll still get a participation medal.)

You’d better stick around regardless because once the band stops playing, you’ll get your prize pack, which includes all sorts of great specials at downtown area businesses! Still thirsty after the run? Local businesses will be open with beverage specials and more surprises announced later in the evening.

Too tired to drive home after the race? Stay at the Hotel Retlaw downtown Fond du Lac on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at a discounted room rate of $99.00, plus tax. To make your guest room reservation, please call (920) 204-0400 right up until race day/upon room block availability. To receive the discounted room rate, be sure to ask for the Brothers Big Sisters 0.5K special rate. Guest room not included with race registration.

Wait, What do I Get?

  • Swag bag
  • 0.5K window cling
  • Medals
  • Awesome T-shirt
  • Bragging rights

And What Does BBBS Get out of It?

All proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fond du Lac County. And we’ve got plenty of ways you can help…

Regular Participant: $30.00

Show up. Get a participation medal. Start running. Or walking. Eat some carbs. Run or walk some more. Have a beverage or two. Eat some more. Run or walk more, if you want. Take a selfie. Maybe even make it to the finish line. It’s sure to be a good time for most!

VIP Participant: $60.00

Feel like the above is too much exertion for one night? Yup, us too. That’s why we think the VIP option is the way to go. What if you could get everything from the Regular Participant level and not even have to walk? We’re still working out the details, but we’ll get there soon. Rest assured, it’ll be a walk in the park — without the walking.

Even Better than a VIP Participant: $100.00

What’s better than a VIP? Great question. Glad you asked. For a hundred bucks, you can be personally escorted through the course via Street Pedalers. Just sit back and enjoy the ride! And don’t worry. You’ll still hit all the fun rest stations along the way to allow you to fill your tank and carb load.

Race Marshal: Auction

1  lucky participant

Want to be race royalty? This is the option for you. Place your bid to be the one-and-only race marshal. Bids open at $100. The auction winner will be personally escorted through the course via an ultra-comfy lounge chair while still stopping to hit all the fun rest stations along the way.

Virtual Race ‘Participant’: $20.00

Can’t handle 547 yards? It happens. We’d still like you to, um, “participate” in the event. This option gives you the opportunity to virtually attend. Join a group of other “participants” in the comfort of Fat Joe’s upper level. We’ll have the race on the TV. At some point, someone will stop by and give you your medal and T-shirt for “participating.” Some food might show up later in the evening. Heck, we’ll even buy you a drink for showing up.

Procrastinator: $10.00

You intend to register, but let’s be honest — you’ll probably forget. We’ve got you covered. Whether the event gets sold out or even if it’s already over, this is the level for you. Though this level won’t get you in to the race as a participant, check back after the race, in November, for procrastinator-worthy prizes.
