Fond du Lac’s First, But SECOND annual, ‘Un-Run’
Sick of all those pretentious 13.1 and 26.2 stickers staring at you from the rear windshield of the car in front of you? Well, now’s your chance to “earn” your very own 0.5K sticker (sticker not included).
Based upon the rousing success of last year’s inaugural Big Brothers Big Sisters Halloweenie 0.5K, we’re doing it all over again!
That’s right. There’s no need to be scared this Halloween. While face coverings will be required to participate, the Halloweenie 0.5K is all treats and no tricks.
This 21-and-older event (please leave the kiddos and the pets at home) will be held in Historic Downtown Fond du Lac, Wisconsin — stretching all the way from Forest Avenue to Third Street (or vice versa). Yup. Three blocks. Straight down Main Street.
And because it’s Halloween, you really should come in costume (but keep in mind you must be able to show your face to compare with your ID). We’ll have cash prizes for best dressed group along with individual participant. So, get your co-workers together and participate in this great teambuilding opportunity and start thinking of your best group costume. Be creative, but also, please keep it decent.
So How Exactly Does This Work?
Let’s face it, things are a bit different this year, so to keep socially distanced, we’re changing up the registration process a bit, so please pay attention here. No, seriously, please pay attention.
There will be two waves (well, not literally waves, but you get the idea) of regular participants. One will start at 5:30 p.m. and the other at 6:00 p.m. Furthermore, to help keep things spread out a bit more, you will have the option of starting at two different places, hypothetically, let’s call one North and the other South, or something. You can figure out more at the registration link below.
But what if one of those times don’t work out well for you? That’s a great question, thank you for asking. We’ve got an answer for you. Be a VIP. You tell us when you want to start. Learn more about that below.
HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO TAKE?
Well, let’s say you start at 5:30. If we start on time (no promises), and for those who want to actually run, the race will probably end about 5:33 p.m. for you.
But that’s not the point.
For the rest of us “un-runners,” just take your time. We’ll have a variety of rest stops along the course. Stop and grab a bite to eat — just like last year, lots of carbs will be available throughout the route for you to enjoy. Thirsty? Have some beer, wine, coffee, and even a Witch’s Brew. We might even have some water if you need it!
And be sure to take a break and take a picture at one of our selfie stations. One of the selfie stations will also allow you to vote for the best Halloween costumes (yes, you actually get a vote!).
What more could you ask for? A band, you say? Sure, why not? Listen to Riding Shotgun along the route and then come back after you finish the race. They’ll be playing until 8:00 p.m. Just before 8:00 p.m. come (if you dare) and see the best dressed costumes be announced.
(Hopefully you’ve finished the race by then, but if not, no worries. You’ll still get a participation medal.)
Still thirsty after the run? Local businesses will be open with beverage specials and more surprises announced later in the evening.
Too tired to drive home after the race? Stay at the Hotel Retlaw in downtown Fond du Lac on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at a discounted room rate of $99.00, plus tax. To make your guest room reservation, please call (920) 204-0400 and ask for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Halloweenie 0.5K discount or book online at www.thehotelretlaw.com using group code 102920BIG right up until race day. Based upon availability. Again, to receive the discounted room rate, be sure to ask for the Brothers Big Sisters Halloweenie 0.5K special rate. Guest room not included with race registration.
Wait, What do I Get?
- Area business coupons
- Participation Medal
- Awesome BBBS face mask
- Bragging rights
And What Does BBBS Get out of It?
Here’s the best part, all of the event’s proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fond du Lac County. And we’ve got plenty of ways you can help…
